Native to the high plateaus of Central Asia, the yak is a bovine animal accustomed to exceptionally low temperatures. Its coat has several protective layers, including a fine, soft undercoat that helps insulate it from the cold.

It is this yak down that we use to make our jumpers. Knitted into garments, it creates pieces that are warm, supple and comfortable to wear. Its softness and insulating properties make it an appealing alternative to cashmere, with a feel and appearance all its own.

Caring for your yak jumper to preserve its softness

A yak jumper needs the right care to preserve the softness of its fibres and the shape of its knit. Before washing, always check the care instructions on the garment label.

If washing in water is permitted, choose a gentle wool cycle at no more than 30°C, using a small amount of detergent suitable for natural fibres. Avoid fabric softener, rubbing and vigorous spin cycles, which may damage the knit.

After washing, gently reshape your jumper and leave it to dry flat on a towel, away from direct heat. Avoid tumble-drying or drying it on a hanger, as these can distort the garment. Once dry, store your yak jumper folded rather than hanging it up.

As with other natural fibres, small bobbles may appear in areas subject to friction, particularly under the arms or at the sides. This is natural and does not detract from the quality of the garment. To remove them, gently run a cashmere comb over the knit without pulling at the fibres. These simple steps help preserve your jumper’s softness and appearance season after season.
