Returns and Exchanges

What is the return period for an item?

For an item purchased during a sale period, you have 15 days to return your order. Otherwise, you benefit from a 45-day return window from the delivery date indicated by the carrier.

How do I make a return?

You have a period of 45 days from the receipt of your
order
to change your mind and return your items for an exchange
or a refund.

 Return procedure:

1. CREATE A RETURN REQUEST:

  • If you have a Mahogany customer account, log in to your personal area and navigate to the "Orders" section..
  • If you do not have an account, scroll to the bottom of our website and click on "Manage my return".
  • You will need your order number as well as the e-mail address used
    at the time of purchase.

 2. SELECT THE ITEMS TO RETURN:

  • Tick the items you wish to return, indicate the reason for the return for each one, then
    confirm your request.

3. PREPARE THE PARCEL

  • Place the unworn items, with their original packaging, back into your parcel.

 4. AFFIX THE RETURN LABEL TO YOUR PARCEL

 5. HAND THE PARCEL OVER TO THE CARRIER IDENTIFIED ON THE LABEL

The return will not be accepted if the item is unfit for resale (damaged,
worn or soiled). The item must be returned in its original packaging,
accompanied by its label and, if applicable, its protective film. Should this
not be the case, the item will be returned to you.

Returns Policy

Should we have delivered an item with a defect or clearly in the wrong size (labelling error or non-conformity), we will cover the cost of the return; otherwise, these costs are the responsibility of the customer. To arrange this, please contact our customer service team at the following address: marine@e-mahogany.com.

To obtain an exchange or a refund, it is mandatory to return the item to us in its original condition, namely unworn, unwashed, neatly folded and in its original packaging, with all labels attached. If these conditions are not met, we reserve the right either to decline your exchange or refund request — in which case the item will be returned to you without exchange or refund — or to retain a certain amount from your refund to cover the cost of restoring the item. This amount may be up to 20% of the item's value.

When will I receive my refund?

If you have chosen a refund for your order, it will be processed within 14 days of receiving your parcel. Refunds are issued using the same payment method used for the original order.

Order

Can I modify my order after it has been confirmed?

If your order has just been placed and you wish to modify it, you may contact our customer service team by telephone (you will find the contact details in the contact section of our website). We recommend doing so within the hour, though we cannot guarantee that this will be possible. Indeed, as our order preparation and dispatch team works very swiftly, if your order has already been prepared or dispatched, we will be unable to modify it.

Can I place an order by telephone?

You have the option of contacting us by telephone to place your order. The available payment methods will be bank card (by telephone or via a payment link), bank transfer, or cheque.

This item will be held for 7 days and then returned to stock if we have not received your order by post. For payment, you may enclose a cheque or contact us by telephone to pay by credit card.

Cashmere

What is cashmere?

Cashmere is a wool derived from the undercoat of the Capra hircus goat, an animal that lives at high altitudes in the mountain ranges of Asia, and more particularly in Mongolia.

How is cashmere harvested?

In spring, as the air warms, the goat naturally sheds part of its fleece during its annual moult. It is at this time that the precious fibre can be harvested.

Today, cashmere is harvested primarily by combing the goat. Breeders are either specialists themselves or call upon outside professionals. This process is painless for the animal and allows it to shed its undercoat for the warmer season. The annual moult makes this harvest possible and facilitates the combing.

Where do cashmere goats come from?

Mongolia is a vast, arid, desert region — one of the least populated on the globe — which is in fact divided into two countries: Mongolia proper, and "Inner Mongolia", which is an "autonomous region of China". This region is home to 70 to 80% of the world's Capra Hircus goat population. Farming has remained largely artisanal and contributes greatly to the sustainability of a traditional rural population. In Mongolia, the goats are combed and/or shorn.

A single goat produces only around 100 grams of usable cashmere. It therefore takes between 2 and 6 goats to produce one cashmere jumper, depending on its thickness.

Global cashmere production represents approximately 0.5% of total wool production, making it a truly exceptional fabric. Today, Himalayan production remains modest. The vast majority of goats are raised in Mongolia, which supplies three quarters of the raw material distributed worldwide, with the remainder of production coming principally from Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Nepal.

Although domesticated, cashmere goats are rather difficult to raise and can only thrive in harsh climates. There are very few regions in the world whose environment would suit them, and one may therefore expect Mongolia to continue to hold its near-exclusive position for the foreseeable future.

Where are Mahogany jumpers made?

Our designs are created in France by our two designers, Nadja and Dominique, and knitted or woven in a Nepalese workshop with whom we have collaborated since the brand was founded in 2005, and who remains our sole and exclusive supplier.

Who is behind Mahogany Cashmere?

Founded in 2005 by Vanessa and Philippe Romain, two passionate cashmere enthusiasts.

Today, alongside Vanessa, a small team of 10 people works hard to offer you the most enjoyable customer experience possible. Based in Angers, Mahogany Cashmere is a ready-to-wear brand for women and men, positioning itself as a specialist in natural wools and cashmere in particular, both close to its customers and true to its values.

Mahogany Cashmere is a ready-to-wear brand specialising in cashmere, sold exclusively online on our website. We have no physical stores or resellers.

Our packaging choices

As a small company, we naturally have a more modest budget to devote to our communications and packaging — however, we are actively working on this. We have many projects under way, and improving our packaging and gift wrapping is among them.

This is not a straightforward matter: as a responsible company striving to reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible, we are not in favour of multiplying packaging that goes directly into the bin. We are endeavouring to find an approach that is both aesthetically refined and respectful of the environment.

Care & Advice

How do I wash my cashmere?

Contrary to popular belief, cashmere loves water — it is therefore advisable to wash it every two or three wears. Here are our guidelines:

For machine washing

• Use a laundry bag

• Select a wool or delicate machine programme

• Use a small amount of wool-specific detergent (one cap maximum for at least three jumpers) — no fabric softener

• Maximum temperature: 20°C

• Spin at 400 rpm maximum

• Dry flat on a terry towel

For hand washing

  • Fill a basin with cold or lukewarm water
  • Add a small amount of wool-specific detergent (no fabric softener)
  • Submerge the jumper and gently knead it — do not leave it to soak
  • Gently press out the water without wringing the jumper, as this may damage it
  • Finish removing the excess water by rolling it in a terry towel
  • Lay flat to dry on a terry towel

The more you wash it following these care instructions, the more beautiful and soft it will become. Should you notice any pilling, it will gradually disappear with each wash.

How should I dry my cashmere?

We recommend drying your cashmere jumper flat on a towel, away from any heat source and out of direct sunlight (this also applies to all other materials purchased on the Mahogany website).

How can I prevent pilling?

The fact that your jumper pills is not a sign of poor quality — this is a common misconception. Cashmere pills more or less depending on how it is worn and cared for.

To avoid pilling, reduce friction and wash your cashmere every two or three wears. If you notice pilling on your jumper or scarf, use the Mahogany comb to gently remove it before washing.

How do I protect my cashmere from moths?

It cannot be said enough: washing a cashmere jumper in water is essential, not only to care for it over time, but also to keep moths at bay. Once clean, you may place it in a garment bag and store it in a dry location with cedar anti-moth balls. Moths are particularly fond of cashmere.
