The refinement and comfort of vicuna clothing... pure Andean gold
Of all the natural wools in the world, vicuna clothing is the most divine of all. Its slim 12 micron-diameter fibre makes its wool the finest, softest and warmest of all natural fibres. The coat of this legendary animal is even finer and warmer than cashmere or alpaca. By comparison, a human hair is 70 microns in diameter! But how can wool that fine be the warmest?
It's incredible thermal quality is down to the way its fibre is composed. The fibres in its fleece are filled with pockets which trap insulating air. With our men's and women's
vicuna garments, you'll be cosily-warm and stylishly-elegant all winter through! Women's sweater, stole, scarf or cape... Vicuna, also known as Andean gold, is the ultimate in refinement!
Vicuna clothing... the animal and its history
This animal from the Camelidae family is rather small in size (1.3 m tall on average) but is ever-so resistant. It lives in herds in the high deserted plains and mountains of the Andes at altitudes of 3,500 to 5,000 metres. The harsh climate in these high plateaus means its coat is extremely warm and soft. And, that's why this wool is the warmest in the world.
The
vicuna, whose population under the Inca Empire stood at around a million, was still on the brink of extinction until recently. In the 1970s, its population dwindled to about 5,000. Today, thanks to governmental and international measures, its stock stands at over 300,000 in the wild and is steadily growing.
Import of its wool is still highly-controlled and ever-so rare. As far as we know, there are only 2 other importers of this fibre in Europe. We're therefore delighted to present our premium collection in vicuna for men and women to you today.
